LOCAL BUSINESS PROFESSOR
IS CREATING MAGIC
Professor Tim McHeffey
“Students are beyond bored having to memorize management theories, complete with names and dates,” says Tim McHeffey of Suffolk County Community College. “And it’s pretty much useless if they don’t learn how to apply it. Textbooks are becoming increasingly less meaningful.”
Professor McHeffey authored the Random House Teacher’s Guide for Creating Magic, Ten Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney (based on the principles taught at the world-renowned Disney Institute) by Lee Cockerell, former Executive Vice President for Operations at Walt Disney World, in charge of forty-thousand employee Cast Members at the number one vacation destination in the world.
Tim McHeffey began supplementing his classroom curriculum with some of the Disney Magic, as he calls it— and noticed the students coming alive with increased interest.
“Disney has always been a favorite company for case study work,” shares McHeffey. But only when he experienced Lee Cockerell’s captivating stories did he see the opportunity to employ the management practices that inspire employees, delight customers, and achieve extraordinary business results.
Random House best-selling author Lee Cockerell developed the Great Leadership Strategies taught at the famous Disney Institute. Many consider it the finest training course in the world, and it’s been used by Microsoft, Burger King, J and J, ABC and the FBI.
“Creating Magic is elegant in its simplicity and practicality,” says George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC Sports. The One-Minute Manager author Ken Blanchard says Lee’s book “really reaches people and helps them improve their effectiveness at work, home, and in their communities.” McHeffey likes this message in a world growing in need of leadership based on empathy.
